TEEN MAKER PROGRAM

The Open Works Youth Teen Maker Program aims to provide hands-on design and production experience to the next generation of aspiring makers. Through a series of collaborative and independent creative projects, Baltimore high school students will learn how to safely use the technology available here in our state-of-the-art makerspace to develop an idea into a finished product as well as learn the ins and outs of building and managing a sustainable creative practice. Stipend available, participation-based. 

The 2022-2023 Teen Maker Program runs from October until May. Applications due on or before September 16.

YOUTH MAKER SHOP FALL 2022

Join Open Works for weekend afternoon classes at Open Works, learning and creating with different tools and technologies. 

Register by phone (410-862-0424), online or in person to secure a spot for your young person in this class.

Masks and proof of vaccination required. Please bring water bottle and snack.

September 19–October 9

Sewing, Ages 12–15

Explore table top machine sewing to create a variety of sewing projects such as tote bags and garments. Cut, stitch, hem and pattern for 4 consecutive weeks at Open Works and leave with finished sewn products.

Sewing, Ages 8–11

Explore table top machine sewing to create a variety of sewing projects such as tote bags and garments. Cut, stitch, hem and pattern for 4 consecutive weeks at Open Works and leave with finished sewn products.

November 13- December 4

Tinker, Explore! Ages 8–11

Join Open Works for a week of half-day summer camp creating with TinkerCad, 3D printers and laser cutters. Experience the step-by-step process of taking things apart to then tinker to create designs for 3D printing and laser cutting.

Class Policies

Lateness

Arrivals 20 minutes late or more will not be admitted into class and registration is not transferable.

Appropriate & Safe Attire

To avoid accidents with machinery, please avoid wearing loose clothing, pull back hair and scarves, wear closed-toe shoes.

Wear a mask covering both your nose and mouth.

Enrollment

Open Works must have at least 3 participants enrolled in the class 48 hours prior to start date in order to run the class.

 

Inclement Weather

Open Works follows Baltimore City Government schedule for closures. Classes will run according to this schedule unless otherwise informed by Open Works staff.

Cancellation

In order to exchange or be reimbursed for class fees, it is your responsibility to notify Open Works at least 24-hours in advance of class start date.
