7th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrate the whole week with us!
Open Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission dedicated to educational and economic development in Baltimore City!
Shingle Fundraiser
Open Works is building a network of makerspaces and we need your help! This month, we are building a shed by our loading dock to free up studio space inside so we can support more makers. Framing will be finished for our 7th birthday on October 6-7th.
After that, we will start shingling the shed in surplus road signs that the MTA gifted us back in 2017.
CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR SHINGLE
We estimate it will take 440 signs to cover the shed, and we are inviting you to sponsor a shingle! Each shingle costs $150, and come switch an opportunity to put a name or message on it for posterity.

The Beginning
Open Works was founded in 2016 to rebuild Baltimore’s manufacturing economy from the grassroots up — one maker at a time! Now one of America’s largest nonprofit makerspaces, we support 118 jobs and work with over 1,000 young people a year through educational programs. We are here to support you wherever you are on your maker journey — learning new skills, launching new businesses, or building new relationships in Baltimore’s largest creative community.

In Spring of 2023 began installing Solar Charging Stations, a project the will improve the digital equity in multi community spaces. The first solar station at the 29th Street Community Center this week! The funding for these prototypes was obtained by Aaron Kauffman and the Central Baltimore Partnership, thanks so much! Notable Projects
In 2023, Will Holman, Executive Director at Open Works announced plans to expand to the west side of Baltimore in partnership with Coppin State University (CSU).
In 2022, Open Works passed MD SB453, a first-in-the-nation funding bill for makerspaces. The Maker Policy Playbook uses the story of that process to illustrate how to advocate for maker-friendly policies in your community! At the end of the book, an open-source toolkit includes the policy paper, legislation, social media graphics, and op-ed used in our successful campaign. The PDF download also includes hyperlinks to digital copies of these documents to make them easy to remix and reuse in other campaigns. Get you free download: bit.ly/MakerPolicyPlaybook
