CLASSES & PROGRAMS / ADULT PROGRAMS
Adult Programs at Every Level.
Due to COVID-19, our regular in-person programs (outlined in the section below) have been cancelled indefinitely to comply with capacity caps mandated by the City of Baltimore. As of Oct. 30th, 2020, we have launched a hybrid online/in-person safety class pathway. Please register and complete the online half of the instruction on Teachable.com (free), then return to this page to schedule your Skill Show class ($55). Skill Show classes are an in-person, limited-capacity, socially-distanced competency demonstration with one of our usual instructors. Both halves of the class are required to gain access to Open Works’ shops.
Our Skill Show sessions will be very limited at first. Please check this page for frequently for updates to the schedule beginning the second week of November, 2020.

Class prices a hardship for you? Apply for a scholarship.
Note: All adult classes are available for makers ages 16 and up. Any student under 18 must co-register with a parent or adult guardian
Safety classes are required to use our Textiles, Wood, Metal, and Digital Fabrication shops. They provide instruction in basic tool usage as well as a general shop orientation so you know where to find the emergency shut-offs, dust collection, and hand tools.
We now offer a hybrid pathway to safety certification! Take the online portion for free on Teachable and sign up for an in-person Skill Show to demonstrate your skills and practice hands-on with machines and tools.
Skill classes provide instruction in our software packages and/or advanced shop techniques.
Project classes are organized around making something specific, from tote bags to pour-over coffee stands and more!
Foundation classes are 4-session introductions to a specific fabrication discipline to take you from beginner to confident maker in four successive weekends.
Arrivals 20 minutes late or more will not be admitted into class and registration is not transferable.
Appropriate & Safe Attire
To avoid accidents with machinery, please avoid wearing loose clothing, pull back hair and scarves, wear closed-toe shoes.
Open Works must have at least 3 participants enrolled in the class 48 hours prior to start date in order to run the class.
Open Works follows Baltimore City Government schedule for closures. Classes will run according to this schedule unless otherwise informed by Open Works staff.
In order to exchange or be reimbursed for class fees, it is your responsibility to notify Open Works at least 24-hours in advance of class start date.
