Open Works
Open Works Weekly 9/24/2021
Open Works is turning five years old, can you believe it?!?! More details schedule can be found in separate post.
Buckle up, I’ve got a good news twofer for y’all! Our Teen Maker Program is back AND we’ve hired an amazing facilitator to run it.
Meet Ana Maria Economou. Ana Maria is a ceramic artist and recent graduate of Towson University where she received a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts Infusion. She brings nearly a decade of experience in community arts education to the Open Works family. We couldn’t be more excited to have her at the helm of one of our favorite programs.
The Open Works Youth Teen Maker Program aims to provide hands-on design and production experience to the next generation of aspiring makers. Through a series of collaborative and independent creative projects, Baltimore high school students will learn how to safely use the technology available here in our state-of-the-art makerspace to develop an idea into a finished product as well as learn the ins and outs of building and managing a sustainable creative practice.
We’d love to introduce you to another one of the EnterpRISE 2021 judges.
Jim Peterson is the Small Business Ambassador on the Minority and Women Owned Businesses team for M&T Bank. In that role he focuses on the engagement, education and empowerment of minority and women owned businesses. Prior to M&T Bank he served in the Mayor’s Office of Minority & Women Owned Businesses as the Outreach Coordinator for the Baltimore City Small Business Resource Center. Jim is a former business owner with over 25 years of business ownership, sales and entrepreneurial experience.
There’s still plenty of time to apply for EnterpRISE 2021.
Our very own April Danielle Lewis, Director of Community and Culture, will be speaking at MICA’s Constitution Day event Cultural Lifelines of the Pandemic as part of their Mixed Media Speaker Series.
“This year we are celebrating Baltimore artists and organizers who have used the power of art and civic action to take care of our neighbors, our hearts, and our minds throughout Covid-19. As we continue to move through the pandemic and attempt to re-open campuses and our public spaces throughout Baltimore, MICA’s Constitution Day event this year aims to show appreciation to the local artists and organizers that used their work to cultivate joy, hope and positivity into the community. Join us as we highlight how integral their art, energy and mutual aid has been to our city’s survival during the era of COVID-19.”
