Open Works
Open Works Weekly 6/25/2021
We are less than one week out from membership relaunch, and we couldn’t be more excited!!! With our members returning in a few days, we though it would be a good idea to catch everyone up to speed on the latest check-in and safety procedures.
Contact tracing form:
Contact tracing forms are required to use the facilities. Scan the QR code you’ll find posted at the entrance and at the front desk. You can also find the form here. Once you’ve filled out the contact tracing form, check in at the front desk before proceeding to the workshops.
Masks:
Starting July 1, Open Works is lifting the indoor mask mandate in accordance with Federal and Local government guidelines. We believe in science and we also believe in community. We encourage our community members to do what feels safe and comfortable to them. We will continue contact tracing logs and ask that our community members stay home if not feeling well and report any positive covid test results to staff. Open Works would like to thank our community members for keeping each other safe.
Reservations:
Starting July 1 we will return to pre-pandemic reservation policies. Reservations will no longer be required for general shop access and will only be required for digital fabrication machines (CNC, laser cutters and 3D printers) and the CNC embroidery machine. Reservations can be made online, via email, and over the phone at (410) 862-0424.
Continuing with our goal of highlighting the work of people at Open Works, it seems fitting to highlight someone uses this space to examine and design spaces for others. Among the many lessons learned over the past year is the importance of functional and accessible outdoor spaces. Prior to opening his own firm, Open Works member Jonathan Ceci led the design team working on the transformation of the National Aquarium’s waterfront campus here in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Ceci believes that maker-culture plays an integral part in design, and Open Works is a proud facilitator of maker culture. Check out his firm and the campuses, gardens, and public spaces his team has helped design.
Looks like our relaunch has been getting some attention! This past week Open Works’ relaunch has been written about in Baltimore Business Journal, Technical.ly, and BmoreArt. We are both flattered and grateful for the coverage!
Here is a sneak peak at one of the many exciting things going on at Open Work this summer. The talented folks in our contract services department have really outdone themselves with these beautiful cedar and steel benches. We don’t always get to enjoy the fruits of their labor, but luckily a few of the beauties will by staying on site. Just when you thought Open Works couldn’t get any better with our new lower pricing structure, now we’re adding the perfect place to take a little break from working in the shops. Keep your eyes out for them!!!
Open Works will be closed July 5th. Here is where to see fireworks.
