Long-time member and 2017 EnterpRISE 2nd-place winner Groundbird Gear just expanded to a FOURTH studio last week! We are so excited to have been able to facilitate their growth with more space, training, and access to tools over the last 3 years. Their success means we are down to just TWO studios upstairs — come join Baltimore’s most dynamic creative community before we’re fresh out of space :). Sign up for a community orientation today!

Youth Maker Shop Winter Session

We’ve still got 3 seats left for this program kicking off THIS THURSDAY afternoon!

Sign your child(ren) up to make their own RPG characters using laser-cut cards and 3D printing. 6 week session kicks off Thursday, Feb. 13.

Register at (410) 862-0424 or email Youth and Family Programs Coordinator Rikiesha Metzger at rikiesha@openworksbmore.com.

Innovation Works is Hiring

Our partners at Innovation Works are opening a new entrepreneurial advisory space downtown in collaboration with T. Rowe Price, the CASH Campaign of Maryland, KIVA, and Mission Launch. They are staffing up — email Jay Nwachu at jay@iwbmore.org to find out more.

OW in Annapolis

Open Works had an opportunity to present to Maryland legislators as part of Visit Baltimore’s Baltimore Creates! showcase last Thursday evening. We got to show off our 3D printer and share stories about the impact makers are having on Maryland’s economy.  We have been working with our local Senator, Cory McCray, and the Baltimore delegation to recognize and provide further resources to this booming part of our state’s economy. Stay tuned as the legislative session continues through the end of March!

New Machine Guides

Our exceptional education team spent a big part of last year documenting and refining our shop curriculum. As part of that, we now have these wonderful PDF machine guides for every major shop — and they are all FREE downloads over on the Resources part of our new website. Check ’em out!

Class Highlight

Always wanted to learn how to work with metal? Many of our users have found Metal to be the most intimidating of our shop spaces, but it doesn’t have to be! Join expert instructor Nick Ireys for a full introduction to our cutting, drilling, and shaping machines. Metal 1 is also the pre-req for our Welding and CNC Plasma courses, so successful completion will set you up for further adventures in steel! Just one seat left for Thursday’s class, register here.

Coffee Corner

It may be the depths of winter, but our friends at Thread are already looking ahead to warmer weather with another production run of their nitro cold brew — coming soon to a Mom’s Organic or Whole Foods near you! #madeatopenworks #grabacan
