Open Works

OW Weekly / 1/20/2020

Happy MLK Day! In the spirit of service to community that Dr. King brought to our nation, we are so excited to welcome Byte Back to Open Works in 2020! They are a computer-skills training program dedicated to disrupting digital inequity by offering FREE computer and IT training to communities left behind by the digital revolution. The first cohort of 12 students kicked off last Tuesday. Want to get on the list for the next class? Email James Merritt, jmerritt@byteback.org.

We would love to support Byte Back trainees even further by offering class scholarships upon graduation — but we need your help! Please consider chipping into our scholarship fund today — just $45 can sponsor a participant.

INNovation Works BOost program

The three-day Innovation Works Boost program is designed to help leaders of established local organizations learn business fundamentals, improve their strategic thinking, and articulate a business plan that demonstrates social impact and long-term financial sustainability. Apply now through Feb. 27.

Traffic-Calming Charette

Help us make Greenmount West a safer place to walk, bike, and play! We have partnered with the Greenmount West Community Association, BYKE, and the MICA School of Social Design to make some local traffic interventions to calm down zooming cars on Greenmount, Guilford, and Oliver. Join us for a community input meeting on Feb. 5 at 6 PM.

Studios Available!

We have a handful of studios available upstairs this month and one or two opening up downstairs in February — but they are going QUICK. Book an appointment for a community orientation today to check out what’s still available and get set up in your new practice!

We’re Hiring!

Are you a maker? Do you love working with people? Have you always wanted to make a difference in Baltimore City? Join our team! We are looking for some help at our front desk and on our technician crew. If you are a capable, dynamic, technically-skilled and people-oriented self-starter, send a resume and cover letter to frontdesk@openworksbmore.com.

Coffee Corner

Check out some sweet Thread Coffee tees the next time you’re in for a capp — they’ve also got pour-over kits, mugs, and cold brew, all on sale right in our lobby.
