Fright mad Fascinating Open Works Member Jason Farrell

Who knew that scary could be so cool? I didn’t, until I met Open Works member Jason Farrell who has quite an eye for gore. As a nostalgia artist, Farrell recreates old horror movie mask for lovers of dread. A market filled with fans that can’t get enough of those creepy moments that imprinted themselves in our tiny little minds once, long long ago. But, what I didn’t realize was how much detail goes into each gorging eyeball, cringe worthy scar, and horrifying grin.
So much time and detail is involved in creating those faces that insight the most horrendous fear, and Open Works memberJason Farrell is no amateur to it at all. His Part 6 ground up sculpture of Zombie Jason is by far a cool and creepy work of art and his talents have been celebrated on horror sites like Bloody Disgustingand 1428 Elm. His most recent work has been his recreation of the original Mrs. Voorhee mask, which appeared in the 1980’s film Friday the 13th Part 2. After visiting his friend Lloyd Albin, who happened to own the camp in Connecticut where they filmed the frightening scene where Mrs. Voorheeis decapitated, they ran across the originalMrs. Voorhee mask that was left behind over 35 years ago. It was old, dusty and deteriorating in his garage. He purchased the mask from Albin and went on to create duplicates of the mask that had us all quivering once upon a time.
With all his talents the one thing that Farrell loves most about Open Works is all the possibilities, and we’re excited to see what he’ll do with them.
“Anything I want to learn is right here. There are things I can learn and perfect here and take it to other productions.
While his talent for the “bloody disgusting” have been praised amidst a niche market, His work can also be appreciated in BROS ( Baltimore Rock Opera Society) performances right here in the the city as well. His work has made an appearances in theBaltimore Rock Opera Society show, “CHRONOSHRED: The Adventures of Stardust Lazerdong” and we’re looking forward for more to come. With his elaborate eye and incredible skills, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Jason Farrell.
What’s the best advice you ever received and took?
Always remember that you’re in the nostalgia business.

What advice would you give to someone else with similar interest?
The people who are the best at what they do really remember that they are in the nostalgia business. The people who really sell their stuff do the little extras. They’ll film it in a way that it looks like little scenes from the film.
